Three Reasons to See Your Dentist in Burlington, Ontario, Every Six Months

Good oral hygiene is essential to avoid oral health issues. This means you need to brush your teeth two times every day for two minutes each time, floss once a day, and see one of the best family dentists in Burlington, Ontario, every six months for professional teeth cleanings and examinations. If you have been brushing your teeth regularly, you might be wondering if you still have to go to a dentist. Read on to know why you should:

Keep Your Teeth Stronger and Cleaner

While brushing and flossing your teeth can prevent the development of oral health issues such as gum disease and tooth decay. However, plaque can form on your teeth every day, and regular brushing and flossing can get rid of them. When not removed, plaque will be consumed by oral bacteria, which produce teeth-damaging acids.

Over time, plaque can harden into tartar that brushing and flossing cannot remove. In addition, no matter how properly you have been brushing your teeth, some parts of them are not easy to reach, letting plaque build up over time. Through in-office teeth cleaning, your dentist uses specific tools, techniques, and products to ensure your teeth are free from plaque and tartar. They will clean each of your teeth thoroughly, so your smile is always healthy.

    Catch Severe Oral Health Issues

Your visit to a dentist is an opportunity to detect any oral health issues you may have through a comprehensive oral exam. Your dentist will use dental X-rays for checking your mouth for bone abnormalities, cysts, and impacted teeth. Through these exams, any oral health issues are discovered before they become worse and irreversible.

Get Advice on How to Improve Your Smile

If you are not happy with your smile, your dentist can introduce your options. Before you try any expensive products that may not work for you, consult with a dentist first. The dentist can schedule a whitening appointment using a stronger product than what might be available at stores. Or they can recommend options such as porcelain veneers to brighten your smile.

In general, your dental visits must be scheduled every six months. But it is still up to your dentist’s recommendation. Sometimes, dentists may recommend a once-a-year visit to those with good oral health. Similarly, they may also recommend seeing them more frequently than twice a year if a patient has an ongoing oral health issue.
