Contractor Vs. Architect: What’s the Difference?

Have you ever wondered who builds and designs the homes we live in? What about the malls and institutions we go to? It’s the work of contractors and architects. You can’t really start the project without an architect’s intervention. However, both these professionals work together on the construction and design of a commercial or residential building both inside and outside.

Please note that both these professionals have major differences. Architects are visionaries – they work behind the scenes, and contractors are responsible for building the structure.

That’s just the start! Let’s take a quick look at the differences.

    What does an architect do?

Clients have a vision, and architects are responsible for turning it into a living reality. Well, contractors play an important role too.

These professionals ensure that the cost considerations are kept in mind. The buildings you see outside are first designed by architects. They act as artists as well as engineers. The commercial building should be safe and so, the architects follow the building codes as well.

Once they have met the clients, the architects create a sketch of the commercial project and it also includes structural systems. They spend most of the time behind the scenes but periodically visit the site.

They are also involved in the process of selecting the building materials and negotiating the contract with the contractors.

Without an architect, you are not going to get the base right.

    What does a contractor do?

Now, a contractor meets the clients to understand the project. Once this is done, they offer bids.

Their job is complete roofing, electrical work, and flooring. They are also responsible for getting building permits from the county or city.

They are on the field ensuring that the building is ready within the stipulated time frame.

    Concluding Thoughts

If you ask us, it’s the architects who are the unsung heroes. They design the project and create a sketch for the client. Once this is approved and the design abides by all the building codes, then one can give the project to the contractor and ensure a smooth building process.

Commercial architects Stendel Reich ensures that you get it right the very first time.

Once the commercial building’s sketch is ready and it follows all the laws and building codes, you can go ahead and build the commercial project.

Don’t proceed without a professional and known architect. The future of your project depends on architects. So, be picky!
