The environment will thank you for taking the initiative to make your home more energy efficient. Yet your family’s finances could suffer as a result. Luckily, you may qualify for a tax credit or two that will ease the financial burden.

However, there are specific changes to be aware of, including a new name for the credits and alterations to the topics discussed. Find out how to navigate the 2022 tax law changes with the help of a certified tax planning services in Pembroke Pines specialist.

There are two credits we’ll be discussing here:

    • Residential Energy Property Tax Credit
    • Tax Break for Energy-Efficient Homes
    1. Energy Property Credit for Non-Commercial Use

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit was extended until 2032.

The regulations regarding the credit vary according to the year the property was put into service.

Facilities commissioned in the 2022 fiscal year

Nonbusiness Energy Tax Credits are available for energy-efficient house upgrades, such as those made to the building envelope and energy properties, for properties placed in service before 2023. l

    Things that qualify are:

    • Supplies and techniques for preventing heat loss
    • The use of glass in the form of skylights, exterior doors, or windows
    • Certain types of windows and doors can benefit from having storm windows and doors put over them.
    • Metal Shingles
    • In the case of some asphalt roofing
    • Electrical characteristics

Home heating and cooling efficiency can be increased with the help of these devices. These enhancements:

    • Upgraded primary blower for a gas, propane, or oil heater
    • Cooking devices that use biomass fuel
    • Equipment that cools the entire building
    • Water heaters that use electric heat pumps
    • Heat pumps that are powered by electricity
    • Boilers that use natural gas, propane, or oil
    • Water heaters that use natural gas, propane, or oil are the most common.
    • Fuel-based water heaters (natural gas, propane, or oil)

For the 2022 tax year and all earlier years, the maximum lifetime credit for all property types combined is $500. The total cost of the external glass panels must not exceed $200. All items must be brand new and installed in the primary residence in the United States.

Tax returns filed in 2022 using Form 5695 can benefit from the nonbusiness energy tax credit. Use the manufacturer’s certification statements when determining if your purchase is eligible for the credit and, if so, how much of a credit you are entitled to get.
